InChorus #13 Strings Together - Indian tour - April 2022

 

As part of Bonjour India Festival – 2022
Kalasetu and Alliance Française de Delhi present "Strings Together - with Kora, Guitar and Tabla", the 13th InChorus project with Chérif Soumano, Shahnawaz Ahmed Khan and Shabaaz Khan.
Six dates to discover the work of the talented kora player from Mali, Chérif Soumano along with Shahnawaz Ahmed Khan, a classical guitarist & Shahbaaz Khan, a traditional tabla player from Delhi.
22th April – Delhi, in India Habitat Centre
23th April – Bangalore
27th April – Chennai
29th April - Mumbai
30th April - Bhopal
4th May - Chandigarh
The artists will be in residency in the Alliance française de Delhi from 19th April onwards.
About the artists :
Chérif Soumano is a rising star of the Kora; he offers music of his time while being deeply rooted with the traditional repertoire that his father transmitted to him in Mali. He has performed with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Roberto Fonseca, co-founded the World Kora Trio and recorded for Marcus Miller. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented and promising Kora players of his generation by his talent to communicate musically with all types of music, without mentioning his exceptional virtuosity coupled with great expressiveness.
Shahnawaz Ahmed Khan is quite an unusual classical Indian musician, playing various styles on modern guitar with unique technique and incredible ease. Accompanied by the young talent Shahbaaz Khan at the tabla, they will present their respective traditional repertoire, as well as some pieces resulting from their residency, which took place at the Alliance Française de Delhi.
About [In]Chorus
[In]Chorus is a musical platform created by the association Kalasetu Alliance Française de Delhi in 2016 and for the promotion of promising young musicians of all genres (particularly traditional music), Indian and French, through residencies, concerts, meetings and workshops. The idea of this platform is to encourage a talented Indian musician to participate in the development of a musical project or to strengthen an already existing collaboration with a Francophone artist.

InChorus #14 Plucking Ragams - Indian tour - April 2022

As part of Bonjour India Festival – 2022

Kalasetu and Alliance Française de Delhi are presenting "Plucking Ragams – French harp tunes on Indian vocals and mridangam", the 14th InChorus project with Lina Bellard (vocal and harp), Brindha Manickavasakan (Carnatic vocal) and Aswini S. (mridangam).
Three dates to discover these wonderful women musicians.
6th April – Alliance française of Ahmedabad
8th April – Alliance française of Pune (Mazda hall)
13th April – Alliance française of Delhi (Samvet auditorium, IGNCA)

The artists will be in residency in the Alliance française of Ahmedabad from 1st to 5th of April.
The events are organized in collaboration with the Ambassade de France en Inde, l'Institut français and the network of Alliances françaises in India.
Presentation of the artists:
Lina Bellard
A musician from Brittany, France, harpist and singer, Lina Bellard reinvests in her work, the influences of three other cultural areas: South India where she spent her childhood probably made her aware of the specific riches of modal music. She then discovered in the Poitou of her adolescence the strength of traditional dances. The Périgord, where her family is from, is the third part of her cultural heritage that she invests in. In 2011, she trained under the artistic direction of singer Erik Marchand, then obtained a fellowship grant allowing her to follow the musical education and personalized artistic advice of Titi Robin.
Brindha Manickavasakan
Brindha Manickavasakan is a performing vocalist in Indian Classical Carnatic Music. She has been performing for the past 17 years. She is currently undergoing advanced training underSuguna Varadachari. A Masters degree holder in Biostatistics from Georgetown University and Music from Madras University, she is presently pursuing her Ph.D. in music at Madras University. An A graded artist of All India Radio, Brindha regularly performs in Chennai, all over India, many countries including the US and across the Gulf.
Aswini S.
Aswini S. is the youngest professional girl Mridangist in India. She started her training in Mridangam from Padmashri Dr. T.K. Murthy. She has received many prestigious awards and accolades and also won many prizes.
[In]Chorus is a cycle of musical meetings organized by the Alliance Française de Delhi and the cultural association Kalasetu for the promotion of South Asian traditional Performing Arts and exchanges between Indian and French artists. [InChorus] offers a platform for creation dedicated to young promising musicians, of all genres, settled in India and in France through residencies, concerts and workshops. They encourage talented Indian musicians to take part in the development of a musical project or to strengthen an already existing collaboration with a Francophone artist.
